As a student-facing event, promotional materials will need to be bilingual. Will there be presentations? If so, they will also need to be bilingual. You should also make it clear that students are welcome to ask questions in Welsh. If it鈥檚 a lecture-type event and if some of the presentations will be in Welsh, it may be worth considering booking simultaneous translation.

Generally speaking 鈥 yes. One of the core principles of the policy is that Welsh should be treated no less favourably than English. Producing content in both languages is an effective means of doing that. Welsh has to appear first, so it should appear either above or to the left of the English text. Again, the overarching objective is to treat both languages equally 鈥 and that鈥檚 something that can be done effectively just by structuring a presentation in a way that includes both.
The university actively encourages staff to develop their Welsh skills. Canolfan Bedwyr offers staff a wide variety of weekly 50-minute language classes. We have courses on all levels 鈥 suitable for beginners, those already with some Welsh skills and for fluent staff members who wish to further develop their skills. All of our courses are tailored to the professional context and you鈥檒l develop language skills that are relevant to your role.
The Welsh language needs to be considered throughout the tender process and when setting up an agreement. Agreements may contain specific clauses regarding the Welsh language (e.g. installing bilingual signs, offering a service in Welsh). Yes, we鈥檙e required to make what the Welsh Language Commissioner calls a 鈥榗onsciencious effort鈥 to assess the impact of changes to policies, or the introduction of new ones, on the Welsh Language. Impact Assesment forms and related guidance notes are available here. Please note, there is a broad definition of 'policy' under the Welsh Language Standards. It includes strategies, restructuring, development plans etc. Guidance on the process of assessing the impact of the Welsh language is available from Canolfan Bedwyr.
Completing the mandatory training module on the Welsh Language Policy on Blackboard will give you a good idea of what鈥檚 required in terms of service delivery. Again, it鈥檚 worth going back to one of the policy鈥檚 core aspects and asking this question: Is the service (1) just as visual (2) just as effective and (3) just as easy to use in Welsh as it is in English? We have a Code of Practice for Appointing Staff that outlines how to do this. Stating the language requirement is something that must be done for all jobs.
Students
You have the right to submit all assessed work in Welsh, even if your course is taught in English. This does not include language modules where students must answer questions in a specific language.
All Welsh-speaking students should be allocated a Welsh-speaking personal tutor when they register.
Yes, all services are available in Welsh for students.

The Public
Attending an Open Day is a great way to see the university鈥檚 natural bilingualism at work. We have bilingual staff registering attendees as they arrive, staff representing academic schools and service departments and presenting Welsh-medium sessions on aspects such as Student Finance and Accommodation during the day. There are specific welcome sessions for prospective students who speak Welsh.

This is something our Human Resources department will ask you as part of the application process. It may be that some panel members don鈥檛 speak Welsh. You鈥檒l be able to proceed in Welsh and simultaneous translation will be provided for those who require it.
